Rock It! Annie Huang Sense of Belonging Bangle

Saturday 13 October 2018

The quote every piece of jewellery tells a story is applied in a literal sense in Annie Huang's Sense of Belonging bangle. Highlighting the importance of narratives in jewellery making, life stories from individuals are etched onto metal within multiple layers, to be translated by the wearer or the wearer ask the designer/narrator to share the meaning of the story, creating a personal and intimate touch of the collection. The burnished edges and lines of the bangle depicts the depth of human emotions and explores the concept of acceptance and belonging to oneself.

The bangle's imperfection and raw autumn textures resembles the branch on a tree, as if on the verge of peeling, symbolising the vulnerability of nature, but the fact it is still intact also represents the toughness of the bark. This analogy also applies to human nature.

Rock It! Adam Henderson Diminishing QR Code Ring

Saturday 28 July 2018

"The jewellery acts as a concerned over-bearing mother to the world. Nit picking at its flaws and issues but offering no real alternatives, these flaws range from the serious to the trivial but are never meant in a scornful way, they come
from a loving place"

– Adam Henderson

Adam Henderson's bold and intricate Diminishing QR ring represents the hesitant and puzzling nature of societies approach towards modern day issues with the intention of encouraging viewers to be consciously aware of the socio-cultural world around them. His core objective is not about altering mindsets or personal opinions but rather for the wearer to debate the tough subject matters at hand.

Rock It! Niza Huang Crush Studs

Tuesday 19 June 2018

Known for her distinctive use of signature textures and striking sculptural forms, Niza Huang's jewellery collection is inspired by the blurring lines of perception and reality, and by what exists around us. Her wild imagination and the ability to see hidden beauties is conveyed in her pieces.

The Crush studs reflects on Niza's innate curiosity of storytelling through unusual textural materials and its intrinsic possibilities. The boldness of the shape mirrors mountain ranges and the dramatic formations of lava; a representation of the brutality of mother nature as well as the fragility of its beauty.

Rock It! Alighieri Surreal Betrayal Earrings

Wednesday 30 May 2018

Inspired by Dante Alighieri's 1320 poem Divine Comedy, considered to be one of the greatest works of world literature, each piece of Rosh Mahtani jewellery corresponds to one of the poet's 100 poems. As the pilgrim journeys through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, Dante encounters mythical creatures, scraggy landscapes, and terrifying demons.

Lost Dreamer collection infiltrates the role of dreams to escape from the surreal nightmare of reality. Dante uses art, music and storytelling as a form of conscious survival. He is the narrator and character in the poem, putting himself in nightmarish scenarios such as waking up in a middle of a dark forest and encountering monsters so terrifying that he writes himself out of it. Sometimes the dream is magical verging on a mirage, with surreal concoction of haunting imagery and his own version of relentless hell, which causes him to lose consciousness. The line between reality and dreaming is blurred.

The Surreal Betrayal earrings is influenced by his odyssey where characters are wrapped in liquefied gold. Like Dante's subjects, the earrings are battered, imperfect and melancholy, reflecting on the story of his ordeal.

Brushstokes | Lady Grey Jewelry

Tuesday 8 May 2018

For Lady Grey Jewelry inspiration comes from the most unlikely sources such as the flawed and the incomplete, yet they transform such influences into flawless ingenuity and imperfect beauty, an underlying hint that the necessity to finish a piece of jewellery to achieve innovative results is a rule that most certainly requires to be rewritten.

The Brushstrokes collection is hand painted and cast in bronze using a distinctive technique developed by Lady Grey. One of the most eye-catching and playful pieces is the Louise ring where the brushstrokes appears to float on the finger when worn, or accidentally getting paint on your hand at initial glance. Another favourite of mine is the Gwendolyn earrings (meaning 'white ring in Welsh) a playful twist to the asymmetric trend with its mismatched brushstrokes in high gloss rhodium finish, its undulating strokes catching the light and glimmers at every tilt, twist and turn.

Often, the simplest idea is a stroke of genius.

Rock It! Stefanie Verhoef Archtectural Mess Ring

Tuesday 20 February 2018

This oxidised silver and rock crystal ring by artist and contemporary jewellery designer Stefanie Verhoef is a playful examination of the often blurred boundaries between the conceptualisation of jewellery and the mere function of jewellery, where she strives for the perfect harmony between the two. The purpose of the collection is to portray a communicative visual language of asymmetry with complimentary shapes, the possibility of co-existence between the two despite their perceived incompatibility, comparable to the diversity of multi-multiculturalism sharing one space among an abundance of creatively innovative yet mish-mash buildings in metropolis cities, resulting in a beauty of an architectural mess.

/In Her Words/ Luisa Bruni

Tuesday 6 February 2018

"My background and my close proximity to the art world has always influenced my research in the field of ornaments providing me a better medium to model my dreams.

"Jewels" to me are only the visible part of something that I always carry inside me.

The poetic element of which is imbued with all my work is made up of images, sometimes in sequence of moments, the slow passing of time, where, in the space between looking the piece and reading the title, is founded my jewel, as the image of a haiku.

The design object becomes the container physical and symbolic, just like the frame for a painting.

I am interested in stimulate more senses simultaneously (sight, hearing, smell) of the viewer to bring him the same emotional state that I feel when created it and situate him in a childlike wonder."
